“It’s about the journey, not the destination.” We have heard that one before. What does it mean? Advice columns overflow with tips telling us to slow down, savor the moment, chew our food slowly, take little time outs for ourselves. All this is good advice, but has it ever occurred to you that you may be leaving your emotional energy in the past, or perhaps projecting it into the future, essentially robbing from your energy that you need now, in this very moment? We cannot manifest our purpose for the present if our energy is elsewhere.
How can we live in the present more fully?
Consider where you “live” in your heart and mind at any given time. Are you emotionally injured from an event or events of your past? Do you need to forgive someone? When we exercise forgiveness, we release ourselves from that time and space in our past, freeing up our emotional energy for the present. Forgiveness has to do with your personal, emotional release and is never dependent upon the actions or behaviors of the one who hurt you. You have complete control over who you forgive. Once you forgive, you forever free up that part of yourself that once lived in the past and can now be restored and given back to you whole and peaceful. If you find the memory creeping up on you after you have forgiven someone, you may find it helpful to do a visual “cord cutting” ceremony. Visualize yourself in a safe place, and ask for protection and love from God, or whatever you are comfortable with. Visualize Archangel Michael holding a beautiful, strong sword made of light. See a cord connecting you with the person you wish to disconnect from, and visualize Archangel Michael severing this cord. As your connection with this person is forever separated, look them in the eyes and send them away with love. It is finished. Your healing has begun and your energetic body is nourished.
Similarly, if you find that your anxieties have you fretting over something that may happen in the future, take a moment to recognize that you are sending your current energy into a negative thought pattern and retrieve that energy, knowing that all you need is your energy for right now.
Lastly, consider utilizing natural health techniques that benefit and balance your body and energy: Exercise, meditation, qigong, tai chi, yoga, gardening, prayer, reiki, massage, acupuncture, whole foods and therapeutic touch, to name a few. When this balance is achieved, love, healing, compassion, physical well being, mental well being and the ability to live in the present moment are second nature.
“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” Buddha
